CONGRATULATIONS ZOMBIES!
THE ZOMBIE WALK

To all my Zombies,

Last year, you did the unbelievable. More than ten thousand undead brothers and sisters gathered together in our beloved Asbury Park to show the entire world that the Jersey Shore was alive and well, and that our Zombie Walk was a powerful force for positive change. You are a strong community built of so many amazing individuals, if you’re up to the challenge this year we can help to achieve something even more impossible.

A lot goes on behind the scenes to plan our event each year, and I am proud to say we have the best volunteers out there. They’re like a family, and their passion for bringing the Zombie Walk to life is as undying as my own. This team has a leader, our Volunteer Coordinator Mariel (We call her “Momma Zombie.”) It deeply saddens me to share with you that early this year she lost her own Mom to brain cancer after a courageous fight that spanned across the past two years. Talking on the phone during her time of grief, we commiserated about an evil disease and swapped ideas about the Zombie Walk. Trying to find humor to ease my friend’s distress, I ranted about how the undead would not be affected by cancer like the living are. We agreed that zombies would be the perfect super soldiers in a battle against the disease... imagine fighting one plague with another! We think we’re onto something...

Cancer is a monster worse than any you’ll find in a horror movie. It’s racked up a higher body count than any ghoul. Of all the many different faces this devil has, doctors understand what causes brain cancer the least. Without knowing what to look for, it’s not easily detectable. That’s where we think the World’s ‘Largest Gathering of Zombies’ can help.

This year’s Zombie Walk has a target. Yes it will be the same amazing, fun, free and raucous event it always is. We’re looking for cool new vendors, musicians, makeup artists, guests and surprises to make it more action packed than ever before. In addition we’ll be teaming up with some amazing organizations that want to educate us and help spread the word about brain cancer (and all other forms of this enemy) and how to catch it. You all know how encounters with zombies end: If we can catch it... we kill it.

On October 4th the Zombie Walk is waging war on cancer - particularly of our meal of choice; the brain. We want to do whatever we can to help kill cancer once and for all because too many people have been lost. Because knowledge is power, and our undead army is the most powerful thing I know. Because brains are worth fighting for... because GREY MATTERS.

See you then.
